Supported Chart Formats and File Sizes

Image Requirements for Chart Analysis

PatternPilotAI accepts chart screenshots in several common image formats. Understanding the requirements helps you get the best possible analysis results.

Accepted File Formats

The following image formats are supported:

  • PNG - Recommended for the best image quality with no compression artifacts
  • JPG / JPEG - Widely used and works well for most chart screenshots
  • WebP - A modern format that offers good quality at smaller file sizes

Other formats such as GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, and PDF are not supported. If your chart is in an unsupported format, use any image editor or screenshot tool to convert or re-export it as PNG or JPG.

Maximum File Size

The maximum upload size is 10MB per file. Most chart screenshots fall well under this limit. If your file exceeds 10MB, try these approaches:

  • Save as JPG instead of PNG (JPG files are typically smaller)
  • Crop the image to include only the relevant chart area
  • Reduce the resolution slightly. Charts at 1920x1080 or similar resolutions work perfectly
  • Use WebP format which offers smaller file sizes while maintaining quality

Charts from Any Platform

PatternPilotAI works with chart screenshots from any charting or trading platform, including:

  • TradingView - Screenshots or exported images
  • MetaTrader 4 / MetaTrader 5 - Screen captures or saved chart images
  • Thinkorswim - Chart screenshots from the desktop or web platform
  • Interactive Brokers - TWS chart exports or screenshots
  • Yahoo Finance - Chart screenshots from the web interface
  • Any other platform - If it produces a clear chart image, it works

The AI analyzes the visual content of the image, so the source platform does not matter as long as the chart is clear and readable.

Best Practices for Image Quality

For optimal analysis results:

  • Use high-resolution images - Sharper images allow the AI to detect patterns more accurately
  • Ensure price data is visible - The AI needs to see candlesticks, bars, or line data clearly
  • Include the price axis - Having the Y-axis with price levels visible helps with accuracy
  • Show enough history - Include sufficient price history for the pattern to be fully visible. Typically 50 to 200 candles is ideal depending on the timeframe
  • Avoid excessive overlays - Too many indicators drawn on the chart can obscure the price action the AI needs to analyze

Common Issues

If your upload is rejected, check these common causes:

  • The file format is not PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP
  • The file exceeds 10MB
  • The file is corrupted or zero bytes
  • Your browser blocked the upload (try clearing cache or using a different browser)
